Analyzing the newspaper_book
This is the last project of my newspaper series. In this project, I analyzed newspaper cover pages
from the days on which war was declared by the U.S. since the beginning of 19th century. To analyze
chosen newspapers, I used an architectural methodology because the process of analyzing
newspaper front page is similar to the process of adaptive reuse or historic preservation in that both
are created by analyzing the old to refresh it. For the architectural knowledge, I had a collaborator,
Adam Janusz, who has an architectural background. After analyzing the 8 cover pages from an
architectural viewpoint, I made the plain drawings divided into several sections in terms of the
tendency toward wars. Then I picked up the adjectives from the predominant article of each
newspaper, and extracted abstract shapes based on the media’s attitude to the war.
